Scotty Cameron has created one of the most enduring brands of golf putters in the entire 20th century, and his putters continue to gain popularity into the 21st century as well. How many golf club makers do you know by their name alone? Also, how many golf club makers have a musuem built in the honor of their creations during their lifetime? There is only one that I know of, and that man is Scotty Cameron.
Scotty Cameron putters have reached near legendary status ever since one was used to win The Masters in 1993. Since that fateful win, Scotty Cameron has forged a partnership with Titleist and their parent company, Acushnet. He also opened his California based, “Scotty’s Custom Shop”.
In golf today, there is no other name that commands more attention than Tiger Woods. Part of the magic of Tiger Woods has been the Scotty Cameron Newport 2 that he uses to crush more tournaments than any player in the history of golf. Scotty Cameron made it for him in a similar design to the club that he grew up playing with.
Tiger Woods isn’t the only professional golfer to use Scotty Cameron putters, but he is the most outspoken user. It would be a shame for players endorsed by Callaway, Taylormade, and Nike to come out in support for Scotty Cameron putters, even though they actually prefer them. In fact, Scotty Cameron Putters have been used to win more modern golf tournaments than any other putter manufacturer. According to Wikipedia, “Since 1993 more than 500 worldwide tournaments and nearly 50% of the 4 Golf Majors were won with a Scotty Cameron putter.”
Scotty Cameron was born in Glendale, California in 1962 and now lives win Carlsbad, California with his wife, Kathy, and daughters, Summer Lynne and Sandra Dawn. In 1991, after working with the Ray Cook Golf Company, Scotty worked with Maxfli, Cleveland Classics, Founder’s Golf and Mizuno. In 1992 he and his wife Kathy started Cameron Golf International. Their goal was to design the finest putters for the best players in the world. It is safe to say, at this point, that they have achieved their goals, and have had success beyond Scotty’s wildest dreams.
